You don’t need to trust Geens. Unlike Dropbox or Google Drive, your files are encrypted in your computer first and only then uploaded into the Geens system. This is called end-to-end encryption. Therefore, it is impossible for Geens to know the content of your files or even file names.
Please refer to the Ethical Committee. The members consist of a mixture of captains of society, including professors from famous technology institutions. They guard Geens users in accordance with the ethical and privacy principles. If any concern about the Geens activity occur, the Ethical Committee can be contacted directly.
Similarly, as Geens cannot see your data, the hacker will also not be able to see it. All your data are encrypted using your password. Theoretically speaking, the hacker can use a brute force method to try to guess your password, but if you set a strong password (15-20 symbols), guessing is practically impossible.
If Geens allowed users to recover their lost passwords, our administrators would have been able to know them. Therefore, we operate under the zero-knowledge principle. It does not allow us to recover and see our users passwords and access their data. So we can guarantee a higher level of privacy and security than the traditional cloud service providers.
No. Geens encrypts your files to upload into the system before they leave your device.
The GDPR regulation unifies data protection in all EU countries. It applies from 25 May 2018 to any organisation that manages the personal data of individuals based in the EU, regardless where the organisation is registered. Non-compliance leads to severe fines up to a maximum of EUR 20 million, or 4% of global annual turnover. Organisations have to take reasonable measures to protect their consumers and employees’ personal data and avoid any loss or revelation. It is achievable through data management and processing, user consent collection, company specific data protection cases, data breaches, etc. Learn more about GDPR here.
Using cloud based applications is efficient in your business. On the other hand, they could create risk or breaches of your data. To comply with GDPR, your organisation as a data collector or forwarder is responsible for protecting any third parties’ data during data assessment and management on your cloud based services. GDPR distinguishes encryption as one of the best ways to ensure data protection within your organisation.
There is always a risk of data leakage or breach especially when dealing with third parties. End-to-end encryption assures that leaked data or data sets will stay unidentified. However, always keep in mind that “a confidentiality breach of personal data that were encrypted with a state of the art algorithm is still a personal data breach, and has to be notified” to relevant supervisory authorities (WP29 Opinion 03/2014).
